What is osteopathy?
Osteopathy is a healthcare profession protected by the Finnish Licensing and Supervision Authority (Valvira). Osteopathy is classified in Finland under medical education as a manual form of treatment. Manual treatment refers to treatment performed by hand.
Osteopaths examine, treat and ensure that clients have the best possible conditions for the recovery of pain and ailments (Osteopathic healthcare provision Certification | EN 16686).
Osteopathic treatment is based on extensive knowledge of the musculoskeletal system, scientific knowledge and research evidence, and clinical experience.
During the appointment, the osteopath strives to obtain a detailed picture of the client's health history and selects the most suitable treatment techniques based on this. Treatment may include, for example, articulation or manipulation of joints, and treatment of soft tissues with various gentle and safe techniques.
Treatment also includes guidance on health-promoting exercises, lifestyle guidance, and supporting physical and mental well-being.
